Nabil Bank Launches Virtual Credit Card for QR Payments Through nBank App

बिहिवार , आश्विन २९, २०८३

Nabil Bank Limited has launched the Nabil Virtual Credit Card, enabling eligible customers to access credit digitally and make QR-based payments through the bank’s nBank mobile banking application.

The service, launched on Thursday, is designed to simplify access to credit by allowing eligible customers to apply for a virtual credit card directly through the app, without the paperwork and conventional procedures associated with traditional credit cards.

According to the bank, eligible customers can find the ‘Apply Now’ option on the app’s home page. Eligibility is determined through the bank’s in-house, data-driven analytics model, which pre-approves qualifying customers for the service.

The virtual credit card can currently be used for QR-based payments at Fonepay merchant QR codes. The service is intended to make digital transactions more convenient while expanding access to credit through mobile banking.

Nabil Bank Partners with Fonepay
To facilitate the launch, Nabil Bank and Fonepay Payment Service Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday. The partnership will enable customers to make payments across Fonepay merchant QR codes using the virtual credit card.

The collaboration brings together the bank’s digital credit facilities and Fonepay’s merchant payment network, providing customers with another option for making digital payments.

Manoj Kumar Gyawali, chief executive officer of Nabil Bank, said the launch reflects the bank’s strategy of accelerating digital transformation and developing financial services that respond to customers’ changing needs.

“Customer convenience remains our top priority. In line with the demands of the digital age, we are continuously working to deliver banking services that minimize the need for customers to visit a bank branch. The Nabil Virtual Credit Card is an important step in that direction,” Gyawali said.

He added that the bank would continue to focus on innovation and customer-oriented banking solutions.

Digital Credit Expands Beyond Traditional Cards
The launch comes as banks increasingly use mobile applications and data-driven systems to make financial services more accessible. By integrating credit access with mobile banking and QR payments, Nabil Bank is seeking to reduce the procedural barriers associated with conventional credit card applications.

However, the new card’s use is currently limited to QR-based payments through Fonepay merchant QR codes, according to the bank. Customers’ eligibility for the facility is also subject to the bank’s internal assessment process.

Nabil Bank has continued to invest in technology-driven banking services as part of its broader digital transformation strategy.

The bank operates a network of 262 branches and 316 ATMs across Nepal. It said it would continue to expand digital services to improve customers’ access to financial products and enhance their overall banking experience.
